A note from David:

What you can expect in Utah

If your boat or PWC has been in an infested water within the last 30 days or has standing water in the bilge, live wells, ballasts, etc. you must be professionally decontaminated. The Marina at Garden City has a decontamination unit. Contact Andy Stokes at 435-946-8457

You can self-certify that your boat or PWC meets Clean, Drain & Dry criteria and launch without further inspection.

• Plan ahead! Download the self certification form and have it filled out before you launch.

• This applies

o Every time you launch! (You may use the same form and just cross out the old date and add the present date).

o Whether you launch at the Marina, at an unattended ramp or with your pickup or tractor or in front of your house.

o Place the completed form on the dash of your vehicle. (Not sure how you do this on a tractor!)

What you can expect in Idaho (as of 6/19/09)

This process is evolving rapidly and may change!

We have been working with the Idaho Department of Ag and the Regional Commission to get a program in place. This may happen this weekend, in which case you will see additional staff at various points around the north half of the lake. If not please be cooperative with State Park’s staff as they ask questions and may inspect your boat. If you are self-launching, be your own inspector.

Every boat launched in Idaho waters is required to have an Idaho Invasive Species Fund sticker attached to the boat on the port (left) bow. The sticker is NOT a certification that the boat has been inspected – just a method of funding the inspection program. (Only inflatables less than 10 ft. in length are exempt.)

All boats and PWCs entering the state or launching at a State Park Marina will be inspected. Idaho is considering having each boat “banded” as it is inspected so that Marina operators and other check points can visually see the boat has been inspected. If the band is broken, you would be required to be inspected again!

If the boat/PWC has been in an infested water body within the last 30 days or has standing water in the bilge, live well, ballasts, etc. the boat is a high risk and must be professionally decontaminated. Call Andy 435-946-8457

If the boat or PWC has mussels attached, the boat will be quarantined until it can be decontaminated by Idaho Fish & Game personnel! They do not yet have a unit in place in the Bear Lake area. If you are at Bear Lake and should discover mussels or anything suspicious; please call the Utah tech at the number. He will be glad to help you decontaminate at the Marina. 435-946-8457

Note: Idaho does not use self-certification like Utah, but it definitely pays to follow the Clean, Drain & Dry mantra!
